What do I Need?

Duckwalking does not require any equipment. It’s all about strength and control over your upper leg and hip muscles. These are just the right muscle groups to build upon the core strength you have from doing your lower ab exercises. All you need is your ankle and knee strength and leveraged gravity.

This is how to do some varieties of duck walk exercises.

First you stand with your feet parted. Your feet should be under the outside of your hips. Usually about 22 inches apart. Going into he duck walk position will put strain on your knees so prepare for that.
Next you bend your knees widely, going down into a deep squat. Then you’re just going to walk forward. It helps to roll your feet as you step. Arching you toes up to make either the heel end or the toe end land first, then roll to the other end of your foot. You usually do it heel toe, or you can do toe to heel.

Using The Arms While You Duck Walk

If you can do squatted walking like that, you can change your arm’s positions. You may have to use you arms to balance until you master this exercise. At that point these duck walk variants are used to focus your center of gravity or add resistance weight.
So there’s the overhead position for the arms. Or behind your head like a prisoner. Also good is with arms in front of you. Either together and straight forward or forward parted in a V. Out to the sides can be done with elbows or hands and can involve reaching or leaning.
Finally, you may want to add some cyclical and symmetrical motion. Twist your shoulders by swinging your arms side to side. Or hold them straight and just make sweeping or swirling movements.
